What to expect:
At Red Fern Farm we believe there is more to horsemanship than riding. Starting on the first riding lesson, students learn how to catch their horse from the pasture, lead them into the barn, fully groom and clean out hooves, select equipment, and saddle up! Students get hands-on experience as they gain knowledge about horses, how to handle them on the ground, AND how to ride. We know our students LOVE horses and enjoy spending quality time taking care of them as well as riding.
What to wear:
Students should wear long pants that are well fitted. Boots with a one-inch heel are recommended, but closed-toe tennis shoes are OK for the first few lessons. For riders interested in pursuing English riding (recommended for ALL new riders), paddock boots are recommended, and can be purchased locally at Happy Horse Tack in downtown Fort Collins. Helmets are required, we have several ASTM/SEI-certified helmets available to borrow for lessons. All other equipment is provided by the stables! Please remember to dress for the unpredictable Colorado weather! Layers are great to wear all year round, and gloves are essential in the winter.
What to bring:
Bring a water bottle! Horseback riding involves intense exercise, and hydration is key year round.
